Many years ago, deep in the wild of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, I came upon a grove of pine trees with a carpet of stunning wildflowers dwelling beneath the canopy of the trees. It was the most beautiful sight I had ever seen as the sun speckled the ground through the branches, and the petals of the flowers gently blew in the breeze. The LEGO Botanical Collection Wildflower Bouquet with its colors and shapes makes me feel that I can once again live in the beauty of that hidden grove.
This set is part of the LEGO Icons series, and has 939 pieces, and is rated for 18+. Upon opening the box I found 9 numbered bags, and an additional bag full of long green “stems”. Also included was an instruction booklet.
The instruction booklet includes descriptions of each type of flower. I really enjoyed this, because it informed me of their names, and their native growing regions.
All the flowers combined took me about two hours to complete, but I was not in a rush to finish them. Each flower type was created in its own unique way. I was very impressed with the variety of pieces used to create each flower, and the colors are stunning. The blues used in the Cornflower and Larkspur alone are worth buying the set for. The variety of pieces used are exciting to build with. Some of my favorites are; barrels in a lovely shade of green, bright yellow hubcaps, and yellow curved wedges.
Most of the designs built up quickly. They look incredible, but were easy to build, albeit slightly repetitive. The one exception was the Lupin flower. This flower was intricate to build with multiple layers, but well worth the time. It used a favorite piece of mine, the LEGO pirate hat in deep shades of pink and purple, and it created a captivating image within the display.
I was very pleased with the number and variety of flowers included within this set. There were three fern greenery stems built, which were a great addition, but they were much shorter than all the other flowers and quickly became hidden beneath them. I recently encountered someone at our local LEGO store that was looking to purchase additional greenery to go with the wildflowers since she was disappointed that more was not included in the set. She had a good point that the flower sets are slightly lacking in regards to layers of greenery. This does nothing to dimension any of the LEGO floral sets, but it would be exciting to see more greenery added to future designs.
This bouquet of flowers creates a very visually appealing display. No matter where you place it in your home, it will surely bring a ray of sunshine and a smile to your day.
