Everyone needs to escape on a holiday adventure once in a while, and in LEGO Igloo Holiday Adventure #41760 our friends picked a perfect getaway. Just a small dose of imagination and we can visualize the little scene in a snowy valley surrounded by towering mountains of white. I wouldn’t mind finding a similar peaceful scenario in our human world to spend the upcoming holidays at!
Igloo Holiday Adventure comes with 491 pieces, is rated for 8+, and includes four bags, an 8×16 tan baseplate, a flexible hose, and two instruction books.
The first steps create a dog sled which builds up quickly and includes some great elements. The two grey sled dogs are adorable, although they do look a bit more like terriers than mountain huskies.
Their sweet faces help us easily overlook this. One pup has bright blue eyes and a white blaze on her forehead, and her floppy ears and sweet tongue showing makes her the playful choice out of the duo. Her counterpart adopts a more stoic stance. He wears bushy white eyebrows above his serious brown eyes and a stern frown sits within a well trimmed white beard. This pup appears to be all about business and delivering his guests in a timely manner.
They are attached to the sled with two yellow flexible harnesses which appears to have been introduced in this set. I love how it fits so well on the pups and attaches the bar above them snugly in place. Sliding the bar through the holes on the ends of the harness takes a slight bit of patience because they fit very snugly on the bar, but this is a benefit because it creates a strong hold when placed and won’t slip around during playtime. The gang line is made with a bar holder with clip and a bar holder with handle connected with an additional 4L black bar.
The sled itself has a couple noteworthy elements to it. The best one is the use of white hockey sticks to create the runners, and the other is the creative way the seating area is constructed to support a larger and smaller mini-doll. A panel with center divider creates a snug attachment for the feet of a larger doll, and a plate with 1 stud grips a smaller doll firmly in place. With all the safety measures implemented here our mini-dolls can travel safely on their holiday adventure with no fear of tumbling out of the sled.
A small sign rests on a cloud of snow, a marvelous piece choice. A sticker is placed on a 2×3 nougat tile which shows the white silhouette of an igloo among a snowy landscape beneath the beautiful northern lights. Since this is a separate piece from the other two larger structures it can be positioned in any location in your scene which is a nice bonus.
The hot spring is my favorite portion of the build. It includes a gorgeous Satin Trans-Light Blue Wave Rounded 1×4, and four sloped curved 2×1 pieces in the same color. This creates the waterfall which fills the small hot spring. I really enjoyed the way the spring was created with a panel piece with three bubbly stickers placed on it to illustrate the rippling water. A brown rim has been built around the lake and a tiny mountain surrounds two sides of the water and creates the height needed to allow for the waterfall. Hidden on the backside a green crystal hides and anyone brave enough to peek through the waterfall can spy its eerie glow. The two pine trees are a very special addition to this set. I love the use of pieces and the color combination of dark green, sand green, to a light aqua is beautiful.
Steps on one side of the spring give the guests a safe way up the landscape. The steps are made even safer with the addition of grates placed on top.
The sled dogs often find their way over to this section to find a yummy reward for all their hard work.
After soaking in the warm water and the sun begins to set, some time resting by the warm fire is in order. A black bench with a purple seat provides a perfect resting spot, and a round 4×4 with recessed center makes a perfect fire pit. Logs and small flames fill the center and help keep the guests nice and toasty.
The igloo has been designed to allow the very best viewing location for the northern lights. Three large domed pieces create the rounded ceiling and sparking star stickers are placed all around for the mini-dolls to enjoy as they rest in their beds. A large teal dish is built into the top section of the back quarter dome which creates the cover/seal for the very top of the igloo. A smaller white dish lies on top of this, which creates a perfect representation of a small gathering of snow. Teal, orange, and nougat colors are built up to form the lower walls.
The door is set recessed into the building. I think this was a great design feature. It allows for an overhang to allow the guest to shake the snow off before entering their igloo. Two curved clear pieces create little windows that seal off the gap created by the two domes that lie on either side of the door section. There is a sticker placed on each of these clear window pieces that create mounded snow and icicles. Wooden planks are built into the walls here, and two stickers are used on the top nougat smooth 1×4 pieces of each side. The sticker is clear with a golden sled being pulled by two dogs. I was disappointed that the gold printing almost completely disappears on the medium nougat color. I love the design on the sticker and it is unfortunate that you can’t enjoy it more.
The door is brown, but is set inside a light aqua corner door frame.
Mounds of snow lie in front of the entrance and snowy tracks can be seen at the entrance way. To one side a bright light blue box is ready to hold the dolls’ snowshoes and on the other side a berry bush graces the winter landscape. Behind the snowshoe box a vent can be seen with smoke rising from it. This is attached to the stove inside the igloo.
If we peek inside the igloo we find a snug little room full of cozy beds and refreshments. There are a total of three beds, one is slightly smaller for the youngest of the mini-dolls. The two larger beds are built in at an angle on top of smooth plates that run around the room. The yellow bedspread has a sticker of a purple blanket placed on the end, and the green bedspread has a sticker with a textbook full of information about the night sky along with some notes and a pencil. The smallest bed has an orange bedspread and my favorite sticker, a white and blue yeti.
Additional furniture is placed around the room between the beds. A brown dresser with light yellow drawers offers plenty of storage, and don’t miss the cookie on top.
A small table lies behind a yellow and purple rug. The coral table holds two cups of warm hot chocolate, two cookies, and a sparkly purple lamp. The lamp in my build is most definitely a lava lamp!
The last piece of furniture is a little black stove to warm the room. I liked the way this was constructed, but I am disappointed that they did not add a flame or two inside the window paneling. There was room to drop a flame in it, but it would have been tricky to keep in place while it was being attached to the wall. I may have to add this feature on my own though. Sitting next to the stove a small spare log is ready to add if the fire starts to burn down.
Stepping back outside we find one last special feature. A string of pink and purple lights connect the two structures together. Using a flexible cable and tiles with open O clips a string of lights is created as translucent pink and purple studs light up the strand.
I love this little scene. It feels so happy and I am very excited to display it next to the Friends Holiday Ski Slope and Café #41756.
Three mini-dolls were included in this set. Aliya, Ella, and Paisley.
Aliya is a beautiful doll with brown eyes and bouncy short hair that has a small braided portion on one side, a feature I think was really cool. She wears a pink sweater and orange jacket with a dark blue skirt, light blue tights and blue snow boots with adorable yellow laces. I love the boldness of color choices in the apparel of the recent Friends sets. She also comes with pink snowshoes and a bright green camera that has a clear smooth stud placed on the front for the lens.
Ella is the youngest of the dolls and the cutest. Her big blue eyes and bright orange pigtail are a perfect match for her bright green and teal snowsuit. I always find it amusing that the heads for these tiny dolls are the same size as the larger mini-dolls, but it works.
Paisley also comes in a lovely clothing combo. She wears a yellow sweater set behind a fuchsia jacket that also sports a fur collar. Her snow pants are in the gorgeous light aqua color and have two cute back pockets molded into them. She has a shy smile, and blue eyes which are partially hidden beneath a wave of long red hair that covers one side of her face. She also comes with pink snowshoes to help navigate the deep drifts that are laying around.
I really enjoyed building this set. It was nicely designed and I especially liked the colors used to create the cheery winter scene.
