I look forward to each new release of LEGO Creater 3 in 1 sets released. #31136 Exotic Parrot is an exciting build full of bright colors and three options from the animal world. The set has 253 pieces, is rated for 7+, and includes three bags all unnumbered, be prepared to dump all in a large pile to start building.
The Blue and Yellow Macaw is the largest build from the set. He is a very handsome bird with gorgeous colors and perched upon a branch that has burst into bloom. The parrot attaches to the branch through the use of technic™ pieces, which allows for stability, but restricts the ability to remove the parrot easily and may not hold up well to rough play, or a lot of movement. The large flowers are both pink and white, but they vary slightly in color within their centers with one a darker shade of pink and one a shade of yellow. Behind the flowers layers of leaves attach to the branch base.
Blue and yellow pieces are the most prominent colors used, but to create the face a selection of white, black and green pieces are also used. The parrot’s tail is flexible and can flap up and down to help keep him balanced. The wings are large and full of layers.
I love the use of ball and sockets and this is the piece used to attach the wings. They allow for great movement, but unfortunately the parrots’ broad soldiers restrict the wings from rotating into a flying position. They do have full range of motion rising up along his back. Overall he is one fine feathered parrot. He would make a great addition to any display shelf.
Breaking down the parrot to build the other options was sad, he is such a pretty bird, but I was excited to see what the fish and frog looked like. I built the fish next. It used less pieces, but I was surprised with how many it took up. A layer of coral builds up to create a platform for our watery friend. The use of pink and brown pieces to create the coral is a nice touch, but the tall leafy plant is the foliage highlight since it provides a perfect little hiding place in case your fish is shy.
The fish is primarily shades of blue, but has a speckle of color with his bright yellow tail, fins and a black fin perched on top of his back. Using some of the technic™ pieces from the parrots feet, the fish attaches to the coral reef. This allows him to tilt forward and slightly back, but it does not allow for any movement from side to side. This second option is a great little build and very cute.
His front legs are stationary, but his back legs can rotate around with the use of a ball socket. This freedom of movement is very useful since he can sit quietly, or leap away to escape any danger. Despite the fact that he is the smallest and may not be as detailed as the others he is a great addition and deserves an equal amount of attention.
This set is a great deal for the price and well worth picking up.
